The RCA Summer Music Festival, 2010
This year’s RCA Summer Music Festival once again brought great music to Bayley Beach and Pinkney Park. And when it rained, no spirits were dampened as we decamped to Rowayton School so the show could go on. |
| |
It all happens because the Festival receives so much support. Besides the RCA’s substantial funding, the Festival this year was supported by no fewer than 28 Rowayton, Norwalk and Darien based businesses and individuals. This year’s Series Sponsors, who provide our highest level of support, included David Osherow, DDS, offering orthodontics in Darien, thank you Dr. Osherow; Divine Grapes (aka Rowayton Wine and the WinePort stores in Darien and Stamford), thank you Marianne McNulty; Raise High Construction, thank you Joe Carter and Michael Stein; and The Sono Baking Company & Café, thank you John Barricelli. |
|
| |
| Additional, important support came from 23 show sponsors, 11 of whom were brand-new Festival supporters. |

Our Supporting Sponsor - the Doubletree Hotel - provided welcome room and board to some of the performers. For all of our sponsors, please show your appreciation by supporting their businesses. You can link to their websites by going to the the RCA 2010 Summer Music Festival website page.
Additional thanks must go to the Rowaytonites and nearby neighbors who became Festival Fans with generous donations. This was the first year of this fundraising effort; it was a success, and we look forward to gaining even greater citizen support next season and beyond.

Planning the season and putting on the shows came from the efforts of many people, foremost among them, RCA Board members Joe Carter and Chris Sovak and Festival committee members Brendan McGee, Andy Meyerson and Kirk Stirland. Peter Blandori (www.blandori.com) was once again our graphics guy for everything we printed. Scott Kuykendall of Oxygen Design (www.o2design.biz) produced our web pages and email blasts. The great sound was once again produced by InPhase Audio of Wilton, ably assisted in the equipment setups and breakdowns by Chris Sammons. At Bayley Beach, Susan and Melissa Bucciarelli made sure the parking was done properly. At both Bayley and Pinkney, Don Wilson helped us keep the grounds in order, and Ed Carlson provided learned advice on logistics. Many thanks to all. And last but hardly least, we thank all who came to the shows and enjoyed the music. You are the reason for the RCA Summer Music Festival and the most important part of what makes Rowayton the special place it is. See you next summer!

RCA Comedy Night 2010
The annual RCA Comedy Night fundraiser, held back in May, was another resounding success. The sold out crowd of over 350 packed their picnics and met under the big tent at the Community Center for an evening of laughs and dancing. Spirits were high as people caught up and dined with friends after a long winter. The three professional stand-up comedians from New York City had all in stitches. The comedians, brought in by Craig Spinney, Rowayton resident and Stage Manager for the Daily Show, made for a hilarious evening with nonstop laughs. When the comedy concluded, the dance floor was hopping to the tunes selected by one of New York City’s most popular DJs. We would like to thank Craig Spinney and the many volunteers and contributors who helped make this event such a great success.
This important fundraiser benefits the Rowayton Civic Association and the proceeds help fund the many programs and sponsorships the RCA provides for our community. If anyone would like to help organize this event for spring 2011, please email Jill Klein or call here at 354-3776. |

RCA July 4th Fireworks
The weather was perfect for this year’s July 4th celebration and fireworks. Atlas Pyrovision once again launched a great fireworks display and King For A Day put on a wonderful show, as spectators crowded into Bayley Beach, nearby beach clubs and the surrounding waters.
The Rowayton Civic Association would like to thank the following people and organizations for their help in making the 2010 fireworks a success: Ed Carlson, Rowayton Fire Marshall, the Rowayton Volunteer Fire Department, Joe Carter, who heads the RCA’s Summer Music Festival, Lt. Paul Resnik, Lt. Michael Paul, the Norwalk Police, Norwalk Hospital EMTs and key personnel at Bayley Beach including Don Wilson, and Sue, Laura and Melissa Buccarelli.
Rowayton’s fireworks are in large part funded by monetary and in-kind contributions from local organizations. Extra-special thanks to the following organizations which made this year’s fireworks possible: the Rowayton Beach Association, Pine Point Association and Bell Island Association, the Commissioners of the 6th Taxing District, the Roton Point Club, Weeburn Country Club, Tokeneke Association, Norwalk Yacht Club and Rowayton Yacht Club. |

RCA River Ramble
The long, dry summer of 2010 had at least one day when the heavens threatened to pour inches of rain – on the scheduled date of the 40th annual Rowayton River Ramble. Never fear, our brave leaders made the call and the day was switched to Sunday for the first time in over a decade, and maybe the 2nd time in the 40 years of the event. No rain and 100% humidity on Saturday made Sunday’s sweet sun and cooling breeze all the more refreshing! Yahoo! Game on! And the games did go on, for hours, thanks to the efforts of event chairman Kelly Brewer and her co-chair, June Anderson, and the many, many volunteers who made this day a big success.
From set-up to sundown, the scene at Pinkney Park was busy with giggles and laughs and good food and good cheer (and good beer, thanks to the guys – our neighbors – who once again manned the taps to keep everyone’s thirst at bay). All of the proceeds from the event benefit the Rowayton Community Association and fund our fun here – everything from the kids games to the River Ramble t-shirts to the food and beer, to the Ducky Derby (won by Nathalie Christman) to the artists and craftspeople who spend a little for tables to show their wares – all of it goes to benefit every single member of our community.
A special thank you to the contributors to the silent and the live auction, who donated valuable gifts, merchandise, fun outings, and talent in exchange for cash! Everybody made out. None more than the unprecedented winners of the famous Golden Cone – Brendan McGee of Brendan’s 101 offered to triple the priceless prize when three separate bidders heated the auction up. The winners will be glad they won for years to come.
Our gratitude to Michael’s Cleaners, Rowayton Pizza, Ernie’s, Teddy’s Limo, Rowayton Wine Shop, Sono Baking Company, Captain Bill Lewis and Billfish, Charisse Czaja Photography, a great Labor Day Yankee trip provided by Neil Hopkins, Benefit Spa in New Canaan (and some generous Rowayton ladies), SoLuxe cards, Silvia Doyle Photography, Downunder Kayaking, Kurt Geisler for this year’s t-shirt design, and Scott Kuykendall of Oxygen Design for the design of the commemorative 40th Anniversary River Ramble poster. |
